Awoniyi joined Forest from Bundesliga side Union Berlin in 2022 but found opportunities limited last season, making 17 league appearances and scoring four goals while providing one assist.

The forward has subsequently fallen behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in Forest’s attacking pecking order, making a move away from the City Ground increasingly likely.

The switch to Coventry is expected to provide Awoniyi with the regular playing time he needs to rediscover his best form and re-establish himself as an important option for Nigeria.
