Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has urged the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to strictly apply its regulations in order to resolve the lingering controversy surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The final has continued to spark intense debate across the continent despite a ruling from CAF’s Disciplinary Committee. While Morocco has reportedly appealed against the decision, Senegal accepted the verdict, a situation that has kept discussions and disagreements alive within the African football community.

Speaking on the matter, Chelle maintained a neutral stance but emphasized that the integrity of the game depends on clear interpretation and consistent enforcement of the rules.

“What are the rules? I’m not taking sides,” Chelle said.

“As a player, if I leave the field to get a drink of water on the bench, it’s a yellow card. When you deliberately leave, there’s a penalty.”

The Franco-Malian tactician stressed that the only way to restore credibility and bring closure to the controversy is through firm and transparent application of football laws.

“Whatever happens, decisions have to be made, and to make them, you have to know the rules and apply them. That way, we can put an end to all the controversy,” he added.

Chelle’s remarks add to growing calls for CAF to ensure transparency, fairness, and consistency in its disciplinary processes, as stakeholders across Africa continue to demand accountability in the governance of the continent’s premier football competition.
