The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) is set to consider appointing a commissioner to oversee the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), a move that could lead to Giovanni Malago being removed from the post, according to Corriere della Sera.
If approved, the proposal would place FIGC under temporary leadership and replace the person previously selected to head the federation.
The review centres on questions over Malago’s eligibility to serve as FIGC president. One issue concerns the fact that he was not registered with the federation when he was nominated.
Authorities are also examining a principle that restricts people from moving directly from public positions into senior roles at organisations linked to them.
However, Italy’s anti-corruption authority had previously reached a decision in Malago’s favour.
