"He will wear the captain's armband before the end of the Championship" - Gian Piero Gasperini on Lookman
Following the milestone victory against Juventus yesterday at the Allianz Stadium, where the Serie A title hopefuls secured a commanding 4-0 victory, Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini lauded the team's effort while revealing the secret to Ademola Lookman's blistering run after getting on the scoresheet again, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Speaking to DAZN in his post-match conference, Gasperini waxed lyrical about the Nigeria international, stating that he's more committed to the team's success rather than personal glory.
"This is an example. People can have different visions. Lookman became a fantastic player when he thought more about the team. He often thought on an individual level; he made Atlanta great, and Atalanta made him great. I am convinced that in the end, he will wear the captain's armband, so he will have Atalanta on his skin.
"He and I have clashes, and then we make up because he is an extraordinary player who sometimes sins a bit of individualism. However, I must say that in these years, he has attacked the skin of Atalanta, and before the end of the championship, he will also wear the captain's armband, which is a great gesture.
"It has always been worn by players who were no longer good but were attackers to the square and believe that these are values that are important and that help him to become stronger and stronger. We live 300 days a year together, the important thing is to retrace your steps. With Papu now we are very good friends again, it's part of life".
