Alverca celebrate Isaac James’ first Super Eagles call-up for AFCON qualifiers

Portuguese club Alverca have welcomed the first international call-up of defender Isaac James, who has been selected by Nigeria for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

The three-time African champions will begin the upcoming fixtures by hosting Madagascar on September 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Nigeria will then face Guinea-Bissau four days later.

James’ selection follows an impressive start to the 2026/2027 campaign in Portugal. He has established himself as a regular starter for Alverca, featuring in the starting line-up for six matches.

Alverca announced the defender’s inclusion through their official social media channels, describing the moment as a significant achievement for both the player and the club.

“Isaac James has been called up for the first time to represent the Nigerian National Team ??,” the club said.

“Our athlete was selected for the matches in the Qualifying Phase for the CAN 2027.”

The invitation represents the first senior call-up of James’ career and comes after his consistent performances for Alverca in the Portuguese league.

His selection also adds to the growing presence of Nigerian players in European football as the Super Eagles prepare for their next continental assignment.
