Former Rangers forward turned pundit Kris Boyd has warned his old side on their decision to sell misfiring striker Cyril Dessers as it could potentially come back to hunt them, especially looking at the injury record of main striker Danilo and the inconsistency of Hamza Igamane, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Boyd, writing as a columnist in The Scottish Sun admitted that although the Nigeria striker divides opinion, something that isn't new in the club’s history, his sublime goal against Manchester United in the Europa League as well as his goal against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup are perfect examples of what he can offer on his best days.
"Listen, every striker misses chances but I genuinely struggle to remember anyone getting criticized for it the way he does. This all feeds into the view of some Rangers supporters that they should take what they can get for him this month.
"I don’t agree with that at all. If Philippe Clement wants success between now and the end of May, he should fight to keep him. The Nigerian international turns up for his work every single day, he’s always available and he scores goals — 17 of them so far this season.
"Do not underestimate how important that is for this squad", he emphasized.
Saint Etienne is the leading contender for his signature, although their financial incapability has caused them to slow down. The player is willing to change environments in a bid to play more regular football. If his situation doesn't change, a potential move to the EPL is touted.
