Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba has stated that securing qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is Nigeria's top priority at the forthcoming WAFU B U-20 Championship in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The experienced tactician explained that reaching the semi-finals, which guarantees qualification for the continental tournament, remains the team's immediate objective before pursuing the regional title.
"Our first objective is to qualify for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana," Maikaba told BSN Sports.
"Once we secure qualification by reaching the semi-finals, our attention will shift to winning the WAFU B championship for Nigeria."
The 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship will take place in Côte d'Ivoire from July 26 to August 9, with the tournament draw scheduled for Wednesday, July 15.
All seven member associations of WAFU B will participate in the competition as they battle for places at the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Ghana.
The Flying Eagles will be aiming to book their place at the continental championship while also challenging for the regional crown in Côte d'Ivoire.
