Southampton manager Russell Martin has highlighted Joe Aribo's performance as one of the few positives in his side's heavy defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Aribo's second league goal of the season cancelled out Axel Disasi's opener for Chelsea, but the Blues went on to score four more goals to condemn the hosts to another defeat.

Despite the disappointing result, Martin was keen to praise the performances of some of his players, including Aribo.

"I learned a lot about some people and I thought Nathan Wood was outstanding on his debut, James Bree was excellent coming into the team for us," Martin said after the game.

"Joe Aribo was the same, the guys that have come in from not playing so much were really outstanding and I'm proud of them for that."

Aribo's goal was a rare bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance from Southampton, who remain rooted in the relegation zone.

The Nigerian midfielder has now scored two league goals this season, with his first coming against Leicester City on October 19.
