Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has reassured supporters that her spirits remain high following the ankle injury she suffered during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The forward, who was forced off in the first half at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, shared a message of gratitude as the latest international break came to an end, reflecting on the team's performance and her pride in leading the national side.
“Another international break has come to an end, and I am grateful. It is an honour to lead this group of women. I am proud of how our team began its road to the Olympics, and of the unity, discipline, and fight each player brought to the national team,” she wrote.
Ajibade also addressed the incident that ended her involvement in the match after a collision left her landing heavily on her right foot.
Medical scans subsequently confirmed a fracture to her ankle, with further consultations and assessments ongoing to determine the next steps in her treatment.
“I also want to address the incident that happened to me during the 2nd leg against Comoros. Scans and medical consultations are ongoing, and more updates will be shared when available. At the moment, I am doing okay, and my spirits are high,” she stated.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward expressed appreciation to everyone who had contacted her with messages of encouragement and support since the injury.
"To everyone who reached out with messages, prayers and kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart. To my teammates, family, our technical and medical staff, and our fans: I felt every bit of your love and support.”
Despite the setback, Ajibade said her priority was to focus on her recovery and work towards returning to action for both club and country.
“For now, my focus is on recovery and returning stronger for club and country. Thank you and God bless.”
The statement was signed by Ajibade as captain of the Super Falcons and ended with the words, “All for His glory.”
Meanwhile, Nigeria completed a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros to progress to the third round of the 2028 Olympic women's football qualifiers, where they are scheduled to face Morocco.
Ajibade’s injury will be a concern for the Super Falcons as they prepare for the next stage of the qualification campaign, with further medical updates expected as her assessment continues.
