Doma United technical adviser Ayodeji Ayeni has backed his players despite their failure to hold on to a two-goal lead in the 2-2 draw with Plateau United, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Savannah Tigers appeared on course for victory after Adegbite Michael scored twice to put the hosts in control during the NPFL Matchday 5 encounter.
Plateau United, however, produced a second-half comeback, with Gideon Monday and Paul Samson finding the net to earn the visitors a share of the points.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Ayeni was satisfied with several aspects of his team's display, particularly their ability to create chances and score goals.
“My players played well. If we didn’t play well, we couldn’t have scored. We were trying to consolidate on our goals, but their first goal came against the run of play through a deflection, which we can’t help,” Ayeni told Doma United’s media.
“We just need to psyche the players up and lift their game so we can pick up points on the road.
“To some extent, I am satisfied with the performance of my players, especially the fact that they were able to score goals.”
The draw means Doma United have now gone two league matches without a victory, although they remain among the leading teams in the NPFL.
The Gombe-based club sit third on the table with 10 points from five matches.
Ayeni will now turn his attention to the next challenge, with Doma United scheduled to travel to the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium to face Katsina United on Sunday.
The Savannah Tigers will be looking to return to winning ways and maintain their strong start to the campaign.
