Barcelona are examining Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall as a possible replacement for Gavi, whose future at the Catalan club has become uncertain because Hansi-Dieter Flick cannot guarantee him regular playing time.
Gavi believes he can return to his best level, but feels he needs more minutes on the pitch to do so. The midfielder currently finds himself behind Pedri, Rodri, Lopez and Bernal in the pecking order for central midfield positions, while Frenkie de Jong is also returning from injury.
As a result, Gavi could leave Barcelona. He no longer has untouchable status within the squad, and the club are prepared to consider a suitable offer for him, according to Gazeta.Ru, citing El Nacional.
Barcelona are already considering how they would replace the Spain international should he depart. Their attention has turned to Bergvall, who is now with Tottenham.
The 20-year-old had previously been on Barcelona’s radar while playing for Swedish club Djurgarden. The Catalan side were interested in completing a deal in early 2024, but the move collapsed.
Bergvall joined Tottenham six months later, having left his homeland to continue his career in England. Barcelona are now monitoring the midfielder again as they assess their options in the event of Gavi’s departure.
Transfermarkt experts value Lucas Bergvall at 40 million euros.
