Niger Tornadoes head coach Kabiru Dogo blamed his side’s failure to convert their chances for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Katsina United in the EuroMatch/NPFL matchday four fixture.
Garba Abdulrahman scored the only goal in the 21st minute at Mohammed Dikko Stadium as Katsina United held on to claim their first victory of the 2026/2027 EuroMatch/NPFL season.
Dogo’s team created several opportunities but were unable to find an equaliser, while Katsina United made the most of their decisive opening to secure all three points.
“This is what happens in football when you don’t take your chances,” Dogo said during the post-match press conference.
“They (Katsina United) got their chance and utilised it, but we had even clearer scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert any of them.
“Sometimes, you can attribute this to ill luck, but we need to improve, particularly in terms of taking our chances.
“Overall, it was a very good game from both sides,” added Dogo, the former Akwa United manager.
Niger Tornadoes began the 2026/2027 season with a 2-1 win against Enyimba, but then suffered a 3–2 defeat by Kano Pillars before drawing 1-1 with Plateau United.
The loss to Katsina United leaves Niger Tornadoes with four points from a possible nine after three matches. They will host Warri Wolves in next weekend’s matchday five fixture.
Katsina United also have four points, although they have played one match fewer. Their matchday two meeting with Rivers United was postponed because Rivers United were involved in 2026/2027 CAF Champions League duties.
The Chanji Boys had drawn 1-1 with Rangers and lost 0-3 to Kwara United in their previous two fixtures before securing victory over Niger Tornadoes.
