Manchester United could part company with manager Michael Carrick after their heavy defeat by Como in the UEFA Champions League.

The Manchester club were beaten 4-1 by Como in the third round of the competition’s league phase, increasing pressure on Carrick.

According to Teamtalk, Manchester United have identified former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe as the leading candidate to replace him. Howe, a 48-year-old English coach, is currently without a club.

Manchester United have also made a poor start to the new Premier League season. After seven matches, they have seven points and sit 14th in the table.

No decision on Carrick’s future has been confirmed, but the Como result has raised the possibility of a change in the dugout.
