Nigeria’s Flamingos secured bragging rights over Ghana with a thrilling 4-2 victory in an entertaining Jollof Derby, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The West African rivals produced an open contest, with Nigeria eventually coming out on top despite playing the final half-hour with 10 players.
The Flamingos broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the back of the net to give Nigeria the advantage.
Nigeria then doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time through Harmony Chidi, putting the Flamingos in a commanding position at the interval.
The game took another turn in the 59th minute when Elizabeth Adesuyi was shown a red card, reducing Nigeria to 10 players and giving Ghana a numerical advantage.
The Black Maidens quickly capitalised, with captain Seidatu Wahab pulling one goal back in the 62nd minute to make it 2-1.
However, the Flamingos refused to buckle under the pressure and restored their two-goal advantage in the 70th minute through Mary Dunstan.
Nigeria continued to threaten despite their numerical disadvantage and extended their lead again three minutes from full-time when Kaosarat Akanji scored in the 87th minute.
Ghana managed to reduce the deficit once more in the 90th minute through Gloria A. Ameaa, but the late effort could not change the outcome.
The Flamingos held on for a 4-2 victory to claim the latest bragging rights over their Ghanaian counterparts in the Jollof Derby.
