Folashade Ijamilusi has thanked the Super Falcons’ coaches and technical staff for trusting her to represent Nigeria in their 5-0 victory over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.
The forward was introduced after captain Rashidat Ajibade was forced off with an injury during Tuesday’s match. Ijamilusi responded to the opportunity by providing an assist as Nigeria produced a convincing win.
Ijamilusi said she was pleased to have received playing time and hopes her display will lead to further chances to contribute to the national team.
Ijamilusi grateful for chance
Speaking after the match, Ijamilusi also expressed her gratitude to God, the coaches and the team officials who gave her the opportunity to feature for the Super Falcons.
She said she was excited when she was called into the game and wanted to demonstrate that she could perform effectively whenever she was needed.
Ajibade’s injury created the opening for Ijamilusi to show what she could offer at international level. The forward made the most of her involvement by helping Nigeria maintain their control of the tie and adding to the team’s attacking contribution.
Assist boosts forward’s confidence
Ijamilusi said registering an assist was particularly significant because contributing to the team’s performance had been an objective for both her and Nigeria.
The assist provided an encouraging moment as she attempts to establish herself more firmly within the Super Falcons squad. It also gave her confidence that she can take advantage of future opportunities when they arise.
Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros completed a 7-0 aggregate success. The Super Falcons had won the first leg 2-0 before securing a much wider victory in the return encounter.
The result sends Nigeria into the next round of the Olympic qualifying campaign, where they will face Morocco, as they continue their pursuit of a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
