Rennes secured a 2-1 away victory over Angers in the French championship on 6 September, taking all three points from a closely contested match.
The visitors made the stronger start and went ahead after only nine minutes. Sebastian Szymanski supplied the pass, and Przemys?aw Frankowski finished the move to give Rennes the lead.
Angers were under further pressure soon afterwards, and Rennes doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. The second goal was recorded as an own goal by Jordan Lefort, leaving the hosts two goals behind before the match had reached the midway point of the first half.
That setback did not end Angers’ hopes of recovering. They responded before half-time and reduced the deficit in the 35th minute. Carlens Arcus scored for the home side, with Branko van den Boomen providing the assist.
The goal gave Angers renewed encouragement and set up a more competitive second half. Rennes, however, managed to protect their narrow advantage and prevented the hosts from completing the comeback.
There were no further goals after Arcus’s effort, allowing Rennes to leave with a 2-1 win and three points from their opening away fixture described in the report. Angers were unable to find an equaliser despite getting back within one goal before the interval.
Rennes’ victory takes them on to seven points in the 2026-27 French championship. Angers remain on three points after the match.
The result was decided by the early exchanges. Frankowski’s goal gave Rennes an immediate advantage, while Lefort’s own goal increased the gap eight minutes later. Angers then responded through Arcus, but their second-half efforts were not enough to change the outcome.
Rennes therefore finished the contest as 2-1 winners, while Angers were left to reflect on a match in which a difficult opening 17 minutes proved decisive.
