Nigeria’s Future Eagles finished the group stage of the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival unbeaten after a 2-1 victory over Cyprus and a 1-1 draw with Pakistan on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Wisdom Oche opened the scoring against Cyprus, before captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi secured the win for Nigeria. Ijachi had recovered from the knock he sustained during Sunday’s 3-3 draw with The Gambia.
The captain was again on the scoresheet against Pakistan, equalising in the 25th minute after the Pakistanis had taken the lead one minute into the second period.
As FIFA’s format for the competition does not include elimination, Nigeria will now discover which tier it enters next before continuing its pursuit of honours.
