Future Eagles held to third straight draw at FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival

Nigeria’s Future Eagles remain without a win at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival after a 3-3 draw with The Gambia in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday evening.

The eight-a-side Group AD match at the Hovsan Competition Complex was the team’s third consecutive draw. Nigeria had begun the competition with a 3-3 stalemate against South Sudan on Saturday before drawing 2-2 with Jordan on Sunday morning.

Despite scoring three goals again against their West African opponents, the Future Eagles were unable to protect their lead and had to settle for another point. The result leaves them with three points from three matches, having scored eight goals and conceded eight.

Nigeria will now need to convert draws into victories in their final two group fixtures on Monday if they are to finish the opening phase strongly.

The Future Eagles are scheduled to face Cyprus at 8:30am before meeting Pakistan at 3:15pm.

The outcome of the group stage will determine which tier each team enters for the second phase, which will be played on October 28 and 29. The tier finals are scheduled for October 30.

Despite their failure to win so far, Nigeria remain in contention for a place in the appropriate tier for the next stage of the tournament.
