Calvin Bassey has attracted fresh interest from Italian champions Inter Milan, with the Serie A giants reportedly contacting Fulham about a possible move for the Super Eagles defender, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
According to Italpress, Inter have maintained an interest in the Nigerian and have now stepped up their pursuit as his situation at Craven Cottage enters a decisive phase.
Bassey is currently out of contract with Fulham, although the London club has the option to extend his deal for another year and is keen to retain his services.
The 26-year-old is understood to be weighing his options before deciding his future. If he allows his current contract to run down, Bassey would be free to agree a pre-contract with another club in January before completing a free transfer in July.
Inter's interest in the defender dates back to last winter, with the Italian club reportedly attracted by his physical strength, ability to build play from defence and tactical versatility.
Bassey can operate as a conventional centre-back, a left-sided centre-back in a back three or at left-back, giving him the flexibility to fit into different defensive systems.
The Nigerian's next decision could therefore determine whether he continues his career in the Premier League with Fulham or takes up the opportunity to join one of Italy's biggest clubs.
