Japan U-17 women’s head coach Sadayoshi Shirai says his side are determined to make history by winning their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title against Nigeria on Saturday.

The final will be played at Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, with both teams seeking a maiden triumph in the competition.

It will also be the first meeting between Japan and Nigeria in the history of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Japan have been the standout team during the tournament so far, winning all three of their group-stage matches. They are the only side to have completed the opening round with a perfect record.

Despite that impressive run, Shirai says his players are not content with reaching the final and are focused on completing their campaign by lifting the trophy.

“We don’t want to stop here. We’ll continue moving forward, prepare as well as we can for the final, and give everything we have to become world champions,” Shirai told FIFA.

The match gives Japan the opportunity to claim their first title at this level, while Nigeria are also bidding to secure their maiden FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup crown.
