Togo began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 1-0 victory over Burundi in their opening Group I match.
Karim Dermane scored the only goal in the 17th minute, finishing a strong opening spell from the Eperviers. Togo were competitive in the challenges and showed greater intent in possession as they established an early advantage.
The hosts continued to control the match after taking the lead, setting the pace and limiting Burundi’s ability to change the direction of the contest. Burundi created several opportunities in their efforts to level the score, but could not find a way past the Togo defence.
The result gives Togo their first points in the Group I qualifying campaign and represents a successful start to their bid to reach the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
