A Barcelona shirt and a captain’s armband bearing Lionel Messi’s personal autograph were among the items stolen during street unrest in Paris, after protests over the high cost of living escalated into widespread looting.

The disorder caused serious damage in the centre of the French capital, affecting both major chain stores belonging to international brands and small independent businesses.

The stolen memorabilia had been transferred to the Paris football museum after Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. The Argentina international played for the French club from 2021 to 2023.
