The English Football Association congratulated Nigeria’s Falconets after they defeated England 3-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA women’s U-20 World Cup on Thursday.
Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei and Mary Mamudu scored as Moses Aduku’s side produced a dominant display against England’s Young Lionesses.
The result secured Nigeria’s place in the last eight, while ending England’s campaign in the tournament. The English FA acknowledged the outcome in a post on the Lionesses’ X account.

The victory was the Falconets’ second in four meetings with England at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Nigeria’s overall record against England in the competition now stands at two wins and two draws.
Akekoromowei was also named Player of the Match after helping Nigeria progress with a goal and a strong individual performance.
The Falconets will face either hosts Poland or Colombia in the quarter-finals. The match is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 20.
Nigeria’s qualification continues their campaign after a convincing win over England, while Poland and Colombia will determine which side completes the quarter-final line-up alongside the Falconets.
