Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has urged the club’s supporters to remain patient and continue backing his players after their first victory of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The Peace Boys claimed a 1-0 win over Kwara United in their Matchday 2 fixture at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.
Sam Pam scored the only goal 10 minutes into the second half, giving Plateau United all three points and providing an early boost for Ogunbote’s side.
The result followed the opening stage of the new NPFL campaign and gave Plateau United their first success of the season. Ogunbote believes the team’s efforts will bring further rewards, but he wants supporters to continue showing faith regardless of the results during the months ahead.
“The supporters should continue to believe in us during the soft and difficult times of the season,” Ogunbote told the club’s media.
“They will definitely be proud of our hard work at the end of the 2026-27 season.”
Ogunbote’s message comes after a narrow victory in which Plateau United’s goal proved decisive. Pam’s finish shortly after half-time separated the sides and secured a clean outcome for the hosts, who now have a win to build on as the campaign progresses.
The head coach also appealed for supporters to judge the team’s work over the course of the season rather than focusing only on individual results. His comments placed emphasis on maintaining confidence in the squad through both positive and difficult periods.
Plateau United’s next opportunity to extend their progress will come away from home. They travel to Minna this weekend to face Niger Tornadoes in their Matchday 3 fixture.
That match will be the team’s next test after the victory over Kwara United and will give Ogunbote’s players the chance to follow up their opening success of the campaign. The coach’s call for patience and backing will remain relevant as Plateau United attempt to maintain momentum in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
