Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed, popularly known as Kuadri Lyamid, was taken to hospital after suffering a serious head injury during CE Sabadell’s Spanish second-division match against Albacete.

The incident happened in the 40th minute and caused a lengthy stoppage as medical staff came on to treat the Sabadell player.

Lyamid was reportedly struck in the head by a powerful kick from Albacete’s Jose Corpas. The contact was described as accidental, but the impact left the Nigerian motionless on the pitch and prompted immediate concern among the players, officials and spectators.

Corpas was shown a straight red card by the referee following the incident, before medical personnel began attending to Lyamid.

The midfielder eventually regained consciousness after receiving urgent treatment. He was then carried from the field on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to hospital for further examinations and observation.

Play resumed after several minutes, with Albacete holding on to their advantage despite Sabadell’s attempts to fight back.

Albacete had moved two goals ahead before Inigo Aguilar reduced the deficit for Sabadell in the 81st minute. The visitors resisted the late pressure, helped by important saves from their goalkeeper, to secure victory.

After the match, CE Sabadell issued an update on Lyamid’s condition. The club said the midfielder remained under medical observation but added that his initial examinations had provided encouraging signs.

Sabadell did not release further details about the injury, explaining that more assessments would be needed to establish its full extent.

The timing of Lyamid’s recovery and any possible return to competitive football will depend on the results of those examinations and the medical advice that follows.

The incident again underlined the dangers posed by serious head injuries in professional football, as well as the importance of rapid medical treatment when a player is hurt.
