Genk head coach Jess Thorup has praised Rafiu Durosinmi after the Nigeria international helped his side reach the next round of the Belgian Cup with a 2-0 victory over Virton.
Durosinmi scored Genk’s second goal in the 28th minute, taking his total for the season to seven goals in all competitions for the Belgian Pro League club.
Genk had already taken control of the tie before the forward’s strike and secured a comfortable victory without allowing their progress to come under serious threat.
Thorup was particularly pleased with the way his players approached the first half, saying they had followed the plan prepared before the match and competed effectively in individual duels.
“I especially liked our first half. We won the duels and found the solutions in the way we agreed in advance. We scored two great goals. After that, qualifying was never compromised. I especially liked the mentality of my players,” Thorup said, according to Het Belang van Limburg.
The Genk manager also highlighted the quality available in his attack, while praising goalkeeper Leysen for his contribution to the cup victory.
“We have two strong center-forward, and the appearance of goalkeeper Leysen,” he added.
Durosinmi joined Genk from Italian club Pisa during the summer transfer window and has quickly established himself as an important source of goals for the Belgian side.
His latest effort against Virton was his seventh across all competitions since moving to Genk, underlining his impact during the early part of his time at the club.
