Safonov set to keep PSG backing through the winter transfer window

Paris Saint-Germain are satisfied with the performances of Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov and do not intend to sign a replacement during the winter transfer window, journalist Olivier Tallaron reports.

Safonov became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last winter after winning the competition for the position against Lucas Chevalier. Since January 2026, Chevalier has made very few appearances for the French club.

The Russian goalkeeper has featured 12 times in all competitions this season, conceding 16 goals. He has not recorded a particularly high number of clean sheets during that run.

Despite those statistics, PSG’s management remain happy with Safonov’s displays and are not planning to bring in another goalkeeper in the upcoming window.

PSG have taken nine points from a possible nine in their first three Champions League matches. In Ligue 1, they are second, behind Lyon only on tiebreakers.

French coverage has also identified one weakness in Safonov’s game, although the specific area was not detailed in the report.
