Warri Wolves head coach Hassan Abdalla says there is no reason for alarm despite his side losing their opening two matches of the 2026/2027 EuroMatch–NPFL season.
The Seasiders began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Bendel Insurance in Benin before suffering a second loss on Wednesday, 16 September. They were beaten 2-0 by Rivers United in a rescheduled fixture at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa, near Port Harcourt.
The results leave Warri Wolves without a point from their first two games, but Abdalla believes the early league table should not be a source of concern.
“No doubt we’ve lost our first two games of the season, but that isn’t enough for anyone to begin to press the panic button,” Abdalla told Completesports.com on Thursday afternoon.
Warri Wolves still have a Matchday 2 fixture to play against Enugu Rangers. That match was postponed because Rangers were involved in the 2026/2027 CAF Champions League and will take place at Warri Wolves’ home ground in Ozoro, Delta State.
Abdalla confident of improvement
Abdalla also pointed to the fact that both of Warri Wolves’ matches so far have been played away from home, saying the outstanding fixture could provide an opportunity to change their position in the table.
“The important thing is that the team is getting better by the day. The two games we played were all away from home. Maybe, if and when we play our outstanding (home) match of the season, Warri Wolves won’t be turned deep down the table,” he said.
“The season is still far too young and I believe it would be better for us than last season.”
Warri Wolves will return to action this weekend when they host Kwara United in a Matchday 4 fixture at Ozoro, Delta State.
The club’s supporters have grown concerned following the difficult opening, but Abdalla remains confident that the team’s performances will improve as the season progresses.
