Nigeria’s Flamingos are within touching distance of another regional triumph and need just a point against Togo on Sunday to be crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Akeem Busari’s side have been perfect so far, winning all four matches to collect 12 points and top the six-team standings.
The Flamingos have also been impressive in front of goal, scoring 13 times while conceding just two goals for a +11 goal difference.
A win or draw against Togo will be enough to hand Nigeria the title, regardless of the results in the other final-day fixtures.
The Flamingos began their campaign with a 5-0 victory over Niger before producing another eye-catching performance to defeat Ghana 4-2 in the Jollof Derby.
Nigeria followed that result with successive 2-0 victories over Burkina Faso and hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
The victory over Côte d’Ivoire was particularly noteworthy, with the Flamingos keeping the hosts scoreless despite scoring 12 goals across their first three matches.
Togo, meanwhile, have endured a difficult campaign, picking up just three points from their four matches.
Their only victory came against Niger, while defeats to Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Burkina Faso have left them with little to play for beyond finishing the competition strongly.
Nigeria will therefore go into Sunday’s encounter as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, but Busari will expect his players to remain focused with the trophy now within reach.
The competition has also offered the Flamingos valuable preparation ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, which is scheduled to take place from October 17 to November 7.
The final WAFU-B fixture between Nigeria and Togo will kick off at 10:00 a.m. WAT on Sunday at the INPHB Centre in Yamoussoukro.
Each final-day match will also be followed by a penalty shootout exercise, irrespective of the result after 90 minutes. However, the outcome of the shootout will not be included in the official competition standings.
The Flamingos now have a simple target: avoid defeat against Togo, secure the WAFU-B title, and finish their regional campaign unbeaten before shifting their attention to the World Cup in Morocco.
