The Super Eagles will leave Nigeria on Sunday afternoon as Eric Chelle’s side begin preparations for their second Group L fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Guinea-Bissau, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nigeria are scheduled to hold their final training session on home soil at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday before departing for Guinea-Bissau at 3:00 p.m.
The session comes a day after the players underwent a recovery workout on Saturday evening following their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo.
The Super Eagles had to come from behind against the Barea after Madagascar took an early lead, but Nigeria responded with an equaliser before Moses Usor completed the comeback to secure all three points.
The victory gave Chelle’s side a winning start to the qualifying campaign and provided valuable momentum ahead of their first away assignment.
Guinea-Bissau also began their campaign with a victory, defeating Tanzania 2-0 on Friday to move to the top of Group L on goal difference.
The result means the Djurtus currently lead Nigeria at the summit, with both teams sitting on three points ahead of their meeting.
Tuesday’s encounter in Guinea-Bissau is therefore an early opportunity for either side to strengthen its position in the qualification race.
The qualification equation in Group L is also unusual because Tanzania are among the three hosts of the 2027 AFCON alongside Kenya and Uganda and already have an automatic place at the finals.
As a result, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar are competing for the group’s available qualification place.
The Super Eagles will therefore be looking to produce another positive result on the road and avoid allowing Guinea-Bissau to build an early advantage in the group.
Chelle’s men will hope the confidence gained from their comeback against Madagascar carries into Tuesday’s encounter as they continue their pursuit of qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals.
