Inter Lagos interim head coach Olusanjo Olutayo says he will overhaul his squad and remove players who lack courage or are unable to follow tactical instructions as the club attempts to rescue its first Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign.
The Lagos club have won only once this season and sit bottom of the NPFL table with six points. They are also without a victory in their past seven matches.
Olutayo, who is attempting to halt the team’s decline, said he would demand greater intensity, resilience and concentration from his players. He warned that those unable to cope with the pressures of top-flight football would not retain their places.
“I don’t like players who are scared. If I have cowards in my team, which I think we don’t, but if we do, we will weed them out,” Olutayo stated.
“We will weed out cowards, soft players, and players who can’t recollect information from the team.”
The interim coach said his selection policy would be based not only on effort but also on the ability to absorb and apply instructions during difficult matches.
He believes players must be capable of processing information quickly if Inter Lagos are to remain competitive in Nigeria’s top division.
“The NPFL is the highest level of league football here, and I will work with players who can manage information; but if there isn’t any here, there will be an issue,” he concluded.
Inter Lagos’ current seven-match winless run has left them facing a difficult battle to improve their position, with Olutayo now preparing to make significant changes to the squad.
