Katsina United and Abia Warriors have been charged with misconduct by the EUROMATCH Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following incidents during their Matchday 10 fixtures.

The charges, announced on the NPFL’s X account on Monday night, relate to Katsina United’s home game against Plateau United and Abia Warriors’ match against Niger Tornadoes, both played on Sunday.

Katsina United were accused of failing to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorised people to enter restricted areas. Their supporters also entered the field of play, compromising the safety of players and officials.

The club has been fined N1 million for the security failure and a further N1 million for the pitch encroachment.

Katsina United have 48 hours, or two working days, from the date of notification to appeal against the sanctions.

Abia Warriors have also been charged with failing to provide the level of security agreed at the technical meeting before their fixture against Niger Tornadoes.

The NPFL said an Abia Warriors official attempted to interrupt the match’s live broadcast by harassing a crew member employed by the league’s broadcast partner. The incident was deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

The club has received a N1 million fine for the security breach and an additional N2 million penalty for attempting to disrupt the broadcast.

Abia Warriors must also pay N250,000 in compensation to the affected crew member, to cover treatment for an injury sustained during the incident.

The club’s multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, has been suspended from all #NPFL27 activities for five matches. The suspension applies to both home and away fixtures and follows his alleged attempt to disrupt the live broadcast and harassment of the broadcast partner’s crew member.

Abia Warriors have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.

The league has also charged Warri Wolves over the alleged attack on an assistant referee after their home match against Kano Pillars.

The latest disciplinary action comes as the NPFL continues to hold clubs responsible for security arrangements at league fixtures, as well as the conduct of their officials and supporters.
