Nigeria’s Super Falcons will meet Morocco in the third round of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games after completing a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros.
The Falcons secured their place in the next round with a 5-0 win in Tuesday’s second leg in Ikenne. They had already taken a 2-0 advantage from the opening match, giving them a commanding overall victory.
Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu were among the scorers in the second leg, while Christy Ucheibe also found the net as Nigeria completed the tie without conceding.
The two-legged meeting with Morocco is scheduled to take place in February and March 2027, with the first leg to be played in February and the return fixture in March.
Morocco advanced to the third round after receiving a walkover against Congo Brazzaville, who withdrew from the qualifying competition.
The upcoming tie will renew a recent rivalry between the two sides. Their last meeting came in the WAFCON 2024 final, when Nigeria recovered from two goals down to win 3-2 and secure a record 10th title.
The Super Falcons are aiming to qualify for the Olympic Games for a fourth time. Their previous appearances came at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
A victory over Morocco would move Nigeria closer to returning to the Olympic tournament after their last appearance at the Beijing Games. The qualification campaign will now continue with the two fixtures against a Moroccan side that progressed without playing in the second round.
Nigeria’s route to the third round was secured through a decisive second-leg performance in Ikenne. Having won the first encounter 2-0, the Super Falcons added five more goals on Tuesday to settle the contest with a 7-0 aggregate scoreline.
Morocco’s progress came by a different route, with Congo Brazzaville’s withdrawal meaning the tie was decided without a match being played. The North African side will therefore face Nigeria in its first competitive action of the qualifying campaign.
The first and second legs of the Nigeria-Morocco tie will be played in February and March 2027 respectively.
