Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is yet to complete his proposed international switch from England to Nigeria, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The 24-year-old shot stopper, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, previously represented England at U-16, U-17, and U-18 levels. The former Arsenal goalkeeper has since built his senior career in the English leagues and is currently on the books of Wrexham.
Reports emerged in December 2025 suggesting that the world football governing body, FIFA, had approved his request to change allegiance to Nigeria. However, the Nigeria Football Federation has clarified that the process remains incomplete.
NFF Head of International Competitions, Dayo Enebi, confirmed that discussions are still ongoing.
“The process is still ongoing and has not been completed yet,” Enebi told Footy-Africa.
“Okonkwo is one we are looking at, but as of today, his international switch has not been concluded.”
On the pitch, Okonkwo has been an important figure for Wrexham this season, making 35 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship and registering nine clean sheets, underlining his growing reputation as one of the goalkeepers being monitored by Nigeria.
