Abdelli’s Marseille revival gathers pace after difficult start

Himad Abdelli has begun to change the course of his Marseille career after a difficult introduction to life at the club, according to L’Equipe.

The Algeria midfielder was left out of the squad in the spring last year, enduring a particularly challenging spell at the club. However, the 26-year-old has responded by working his way back into contention and gradually taking on a more important role in the Marseille midfield.

Abdelli’s improvement has come since he was given another opportunity under Bruno Genesio. His performances have become more determined and assertive, while his effectiveness in front of goal has also returned.

Rather than allowing his early setback to define his time at Marseille, Abdelli has used each opportunity to strengthen his position in the team. His persistence is now beginning to produce tangible results, with the midfielder becoming an increasingly influential part of the side.

He has scored in each of his past two appearances, a run which reflects his growing confidence and importance. Earlier in that period, Abdelli had appealed for a penalty as he continued to search for his best form, but he now appears far more assured in attacking positions.

Across all competitions, he has made nine appearances for Marseille, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Time to establish himself

Abdelli is under contract with Marseille until June 2030, giving him considerable time to build on his recent progress and secure a long-term place among the club’s key players.

His current market value is estimated at 5 million euros by Transfermarkt. Following a troubled opening period, the Algeria international is aiming to turn his move to Marseille into a successful chapter of his career.

Marseille’s next fixture will come in the third matchday of the league phase of the Europa League, when they face Sturm Graz.
