Andre Onana sets European save-rate benchmark after Trabzonspor clean-sheet run

Published on: 22 October 2026

Andre Onana has emerged as the most effective goalkeeper in Europe’s leading leagues by save percentage after helping Trabzonspor record three successive clean sheets.

The Cameroon international has not conceded since Trabzonspor’s 1-0 defeat away to Konyaspor on matchday five. His recent form has helped the club secure three consecutive victories against Besiktas, Samsunspor and Galatasaray.

Trabzonspor beat Besiktas 2-0, won 3-0 at Samsunspor and then completed the run with a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray.

Onana, 30, made 15 decisive saves across those matches. Seven of them came from efforts inside the penalty area, while he produced seven saves in the eighth-round meeting with Besiktas alone.

The sequence has strengthened his reputation as the leading active African goalkeeper and placed him at the top of a European comparison published by Sabah Spor.

According to the newspaper’s ranking of save percentages in European leagues, Onana has an 89.1% success rate. He leads a list which includes Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas, on 87.5%, and Turkey international Berke Ozer of LOSC, who has recorded 82.6%.

That figure puts the goalkeeper on loan from Manchester United ahead of the leading goalkeepers operating in England, Germany, Italy and France.

Onana is currently valued at 8 million euros and remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028. The goalkeeper, who was born in Nkol Ngok, earned 7,190,000 euros (4,673,500,000 FCFA) per year in England.

His next appearance for Trabzonspor is expected to come in the third matchday of the UEFA Conference League league phase, when the Turkish club face Heart of Midlothian.

The listed match odds are 1.27 for a Trabzonspor victory, 5.50 for a draw and 10.00 for Heart of Midlothian to win.
