Arthur Okonkwo continued his impressive start to the season by helping Charlton Athletic earn a goalless draw against Queens Park Rangers and record his third clean sheet in six Championship appearances.
The Nigeria international made a composed display in goal as Charlton held QPR to a 0-0 draw, extending his sequence of consecutive shutouts after also keeping a clean sheet in the club’s previous league match against Preston North End.
Charlton beat Preston 1-0 in that fixture, with Okonkwo once again preventing the opposition from scoring.
The 25-year-old has now registered three clean sheets in six Championship games this season, highlighting his growing importance since becoming Charlton’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Okonkwo joined Charlton on loan from Wrexham and has played every minute of the five Championship matches in which he has featured this campaign. That amounts to 450 minutes of league football.
His recent performances have come after a difficult result for Charlton, who suffered a 4-0 defeat by Stoke City on September 5. The goalkeeper responded strongly, keeping a clean sheet against QPR four days later and helping his side secure a valuable point.
Okonkwo’s latest shutout also followed the clean sheet he kept against Preston, giving him successive matches without conceding.
The goalkeeper has increasingly become an important part of Charlton’s defensive structure and will be expected to keep his place when the Addicks host Portsmouth at The Valley in their next Championship fixture on September 12.
