Atletico Madrid plan to sign Jonathan David permanently from Juventus

Atletico Madrid are planning to make Jonathan David’s loan move permanent at the end of the season after being impressed by the Canada striker’s early performances in Spain, according to Football Italia, which cites Relevo.

David joined Atletico Madrid from Juventus in summer 2026 on a season-long loan that includes an option to buy for 25 million euros. The Madrid club have already set aside that amount in their budget for next year, although they may seek to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Juventus.

The 25 million-euro clause would allow Atletico Madrid to complete the deal without further negotiations if they decide to exercise it. However, the club are reportedly considering whether a new agreement with Juventus could reduce the overall cost of the transfer.

David moved to Juventus as a free agent in summer 2025 after leaving Lille. During his previous season in Serie A, he scored six goals and provided four assists.

His start to life at Atletico Madrid has produced stronger figures. In his first four La Liga appearances for the club, David has scored three goals and supplied two assists.

It took him 19 matches in the Italian top flight to reach the same combined total of three goals and two assists.
