Mathis Albert scored his first goal for the United States to become the youngest goalscorer in the national team’s history.
The Borussia Dortmund winger came on in the 72nd minute of the friendly against Chile and completed the scoring in the 93rd minute as the USA won 4-2.
Albert was 17 years and 131 days old when he scored, according to ESPN, beating the previous record held by Christian Pulisic, who was 17 years and 253 days old when he found the net for the United States. Pulisic also played for Borussia Dortmund.
The match was Albert’s second appearance for the national team. He has made two appearances for Borussia Dortmund’s first team but has yet to score at club level.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will play Mexico in another friendly on 4 October.
