Brahim Diaz could leave Real Madrid in January as playing time dries up

Brahim Diaz’s future at Real Madrid is increasingly uncertain, with the Morocco international potentially set to change clubs during the winter transfer window, according to Marca. The forward’s role has diminished substantially under Jose Mourinho and he has not featured since 15 September.

The 27-year-old has played only 178 minutes across four appearances this season. Most of that time came in two starts, against Malaga and Inter Milan. Since making a late substitute appearance against Elche more than a month ago, Diaz has remained on the bench, including in matches when Real Madrid needed additional attacking options.

His situation has become more difficult with the emergence of Endrick, who impressed during Real Madrid’s dramatic 3-4 comeback against Roma in the Champions League. Mourinho introduced several attacking players after his side fell 3-1 behind, including Endrick on the right wing – a position frequently occupied by Diaz – but did not call upon the Morocco international.

Endrick responded with a goal and an energetic display, further strengthening his claims for a more prominent role in the team. His progress means Diaz faces increased competition for opportunities at a club where two Africans, Endrick and Yan Diomande, are also competing for recognition in the attack.

Fitness issues add to the pressure

Persistent physical problems have also restricted Diaz’s progress this season. He has been carrying discomfort since the campaign began, making it harder for him to compete for minutes in an already crowded forward line.

Real Madrid’s attacking options include Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Yan Diomande, alongside Endrick. With Diaz unable to establish a regular place, his position in the squad has become increasingly vulnerable.

January move considered

As the winter window approaches, a temporary or permanent departure from the Bernabeu is becoming a realistic possibility for the versatile winger. Diaz’s current contract with Real Madrid runs until 30 June 2027.

Fenerbahce are among the clubs understood to be interested in the Morocco forward, according to exclusive information from Africafoot. Diaz’s estimated market value is €35m, while his annual salary is reported to be €7,290,000 (4,738,500,000 FCFA).

Real Madrid’s next fixture will be their ninth league match of the season, against FC Seville. It remains to be seen whether Diaz will return to the squad for that game or continue to watch from the substitutes’ bench as competition for attacking places intensifies.
