Cameroon’s January transfer window could reshape five players’ seasons

Published on: 05 November 2026

The winter transfer window could offer a fresh start to five Cameroon internationals facing very different situations, from Faris Moumbagna’s lack of opportunities at Marseille to Arthur Avom’s growing appeal in the Premier League.

With the window opening in less than two months, Africafoot has examined their prospects with former Cameroon international Oumarou Idrissou.

Moumbagna facing Marseille dead end

Faris Moumbagna has endured the most difficult first half of the season. After returning to Olympique de Marseille from an underwhelming loan spell at Cremonese, the forward has struggled to gain Bruno Genesio’s trust.

He has made only five Ligue 1 appearances, totalling 17 minutes, and has been left out of the squad for the Europa League. Moumbagna has yet to score or provide an assist, while his market value has fallen sharply.

Marseille are looking to reduce their wage bill and trim the squad, making either a loan or a permanent transfer possible. A move could be crucial for Moumbagna, who needs regular football with the Africa Cup of Nations six months away.

Yondjo pushing for senior football

Angel Yondjo has made a strong case for more opportunities after joining Lille from EFBC in summer 2025 for almost 2 million euros.

The Douala-born forward scored 15 goals in 25 National 3 matches for the reserve side before making his senior debut against Monaco on 26 October. He played 11 minutes in that match but remains behind Lille’s established players.

Yondjo, already a Cameroon senior international with three caps, is no longer satisfied with playing at reserve level. His representatives, who recently signed with Premium Sports Management, are seeking a six-month loan without an option to buy, as exclusively reported by Africafoot.

Lille still view him as part of their long-term plans through 2030 and are understood to support that approach.

Avom attracting Premier League interest

Arthur Avom has become one of the most sought-after players on the list after establishing himself at Lorient. He helped the club win Ligue 2 in 2025 and was a regular in Ligue 1 last season, making 31 appearances.

The modern box-to-box midfielder has played 596 minutes this season and is now regarded as a key figure in Lorient’s midfield. His performances have attracted attention from England, with Hull City, Sunderland, Leeds, Everton, Bournemouth and Chelsea all having watched him, according to Africafoot.

Avom’s contract runs until June 2027, but Lorient know he is unlikely to extend it. The club are therefore open to a January sale for an offer of about 10 to 12 million euros.

Djibirin needs regular minutes

Harouna Djibirin faces a similar situation to Yondjo at Angers. After joining from AS Dauphine in January 2025 following several months of administrative delays, the left winger made his Ligue 1 debut against Monaco in October 2025.

He has played 138 minutes this season and scored once. That is an encouraging return for a direct and powerful winger, but the limited playing time is restricting his development.

Angers have four wingers ahead of him and, despite giving him a four-year contract, prefer to send him out on loan rather than sell. Club Bruges showed interest several months ago, although no agreement was reached with SCO.

Ganago seeking a new challenge

Ignatius Ganago’s time at Nantes appears to be reaching a turning point. He remained at the club after a possible move to the Gulf failed to materialise in the summer, but has lost his starting place.

The 27-year-old has played eight matches, starting four, and scored once in 554 minutes. His contract expires in June 2027, while Nantes no longer regard him as an automatic starter.

A move to a Ligue 1 side fighting relegation, or an ambitious and lucrative project in Saudi Arabia, could give the former Lens forward the fresh start he needs after two seasons in which his career has stalled.
