Union Berlin are considering a move for former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba as they look to strengthen their defence, according to Diario AS.
The 34-year-old Austria international left Real Madrid last summer and is currently available as a free agent. Union Berlin are understood to be assessing experienced players who could help address their defensive problems after an underwhelming start to the new season.
The Berlin club believe Alaba’s experience at the highest level could provide a solution at the back. He previously spent many years with Bayern Munich before joining Real Madrid, where he won major honours and became an important member of the squad.
However, Alaba’s involvement was limited last season. He played 16 matches in all competitions but did not register a goal or an assist.
Union Berlin are seeking to reinforce their squad with free agents, and Alaba is one of the options being considered as the club attempt to improve their results.
The defender has also been linked with a possible continuation of his career in Mexico.
