Former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid defender David Alaba has completed a medical ahead of a surprise move to Udinese, according to reports.
The Austria international, now 34, has been without a club since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season. He spent five years with the Spanish side after moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Alaba’s spell at Real Madrid was disrupted by a series of injuries. The most serious was a major anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in December 2023, which kept him out of action for 399 days.
Reports including Sky Sport Italia say the medical with Udinese passed without any problems. Alaba is now expected to sign a short-term contract with the Serie A club.
Udinese currently sit 13th after their five games.
The defender had attracted interest from several other clubs since becoming a free agent. Hamburg, Inter Miami and Saudi Arabian side Al-Sadd were all linked with a move for Alaba, but he has chosen to continue his career in Italy.
