David Soria sets new benchmark for consecutive La Liga starts

David Soria has set a new La Liga record for consecutive appearances in the starting line-up after making his 193rd successive start for Getafe against Osasuna.

The goalkeeper began the third-round fixture, which Getafe lost 1-0, to move beyond the previous record of 192 consecutive starts held by Juan Larranaga. Larranaga, who previously played as a midfielder for Real Sociedad, had held the mark before Soria surpassed it.

Soria’s run began on 13 August 2021, when he was selected from the start for Getafe’s match against Valencia. He has remained in the starting line-up in every league game since then.

The last time Soria was named among the substitutes for a league match came in the final round of the 2020-21 season. Since that point, he has established himself as a permanent presence in Getafe’s first team, beginning each of the club’s league fixtures in succession.

His latest appearance against Osasuna extended a sequence that has now lasted 193 matches and placed his name at the top of La Liga’s record list for consecutive starts. The achievement was reported by Marca.

The record was set despite Getafe being beaten in the match at Osasuna. Soria started the game as usual, but his side were unable to take anything from the third-round fixture, which ended 0-1.

The goalkeeper’s latest landmark also adds to his wider standing in Getafe’s history. He has made 306 appearances for the club in all competitions, a total that places him fourth on the club’s all-time list.

Caballeros remains the leading appearance-maker for Getafe, with 335 matches for the club. Soria is therefore 29 appearances behind the current record-holder, while his own total continues to grow as he maintains his place in the starting line-up.

His record-breaking run is specifically based on consecutive league starts, while his overall total of 306 games reflects his broader contribution to Getafe. The two figures underline both the consistency of his selection in La Liga and the length of his service to the club.

Soria’s sequence began in the 2021-22 campaign and has continued through subsequent league seasons, culminating in the record-breaking appearance against Osasuna. By starting that match, he overtook Larranaga’s previous mark and became the player with the most consecutive starts in La Liga.
