Djed Spence included in Inter Milan squad for Parma clash after lengthy absence

Djed Spence is set to make his Inter Milan debut against Parma this weekend after completing his rehabilitation from a reported physical issue.

The England international joined Inter from Tottenham Hotspur on August 15th, signing a contract running until June 30th, 2031, in a £30M deal. However, he has yet to appear for the Italian club since his summer move.

Inter brought in Spence to strengthen the right side of their defence after Dumfries moved to Real Madrid. His delayed start at the club followed a lengthy recovery programme, but manager Cristian Chivu confirmed on Friday that the 2025 World Cup player is now available for selection in Serie A.

“Djed has been training with us for a week,” Chivu said. “He's been following the team's programme since Monday, without restrictions or any other issues, and he's completed five good training sessions.

“We mustn't forget his rehabilitation period and the holiday he had after the World Cup. He's been away from the pitch for two months.

“Now he's available and will be in the squad. We're delighted to have him back. We're finally seeing his smile again and getting to see his qualities.”

Spence played a part in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph in May 2025. Although he finished last season with 0 goals and 0 assists, his pace and defensive work rate were viewed as key qualities for England’s World Cup squad.

Those attributes also made him a leading target for Inter, who will now have the opportunity to assess his contribution in competitive action. His first appearance could come against Parma this weekend.

Spence’s arrival was part of an unusually busy summer for Inter involving English players. The club also signed John Stones and Curtis Jones during the transfer window, but none of the three have played alongside each other so far.
