Djene Dakonam’s availability for Togo’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi is uncertain after the captain was substituted during Getafe’s goalless draw with Malaga.
Getafe were hosting Malaga on matchday seven of La Liga, with the score 0-0 when Dakonam began signalling to his coach that he wanted to come off.
The Togo defender made his request in the 63rd minute and, after persisting, was replaced two minutes later by Orel Mangala.
Dakonam’s departure has caused concern among Togo supporters, with the country due to host Burundi in Lome in the opening round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
