Luis Figo has joked that Lamine Yamal’s emergence might have prompted him to move position had they competed for the same place during the Portuguese great’s playing career.
Figo’s main role was as a right winger, but he suggested, with tongue in cheek, that he would have needed to find another position to avoid competing directly with Yamal.
The former Portugal international played for Sporting CP, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter during his career.
Yamal is among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or. Figo won the award in 2000.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in London next Monday, 26 October.
