At 37, Idrissa Gana Gueye has made a positive start to a new chapter in Saudi Arabia, scoring his first goal for Al Diriyah after leaving Everton.

The Senegal midfielder joined the Saudi Pro League club during the latest transfer window and has quickly established himself in Bruno Lage’s side. His 10th league appearance brought his first decisive contribution for his new team, underlining his continued importance in midfield.

Gana Gueye opened the scoring in the 17th minute against Neom on Friday, during the 12th round of the Saudi Pro League. He was picked out by Darwin Nunez before producing an excellent strike from outside the penalty area.

The goal rewarded a consistent opening period at Al Diriyah and demonstrated that the experienced midfielder remains eager to play an active role on the pitch.

Throughout his career, Gana Gueye has been valued for his ability to win possession, provide balance in midfield and contribute to attacking phases. Those qualities have been evident since his arrival in Saudi Arabia, where his experience has helped him earn the confidence of Lage and become a regular starter.

The move marks a significant change after several seasons in England, including his time with Everton. Gana Gueye is now adapting to a different footballing environment, while Al Diriyah benefit from a player who has competed in several major European leagues and represented Senegal in numerous international competitions.

His career has also included a spell with Paris Saint-Germain, adding further experience to the squad he has joined in Saudi Arabia.

Gana Gueye is under contract with Al Diriyah until 2027. His value is estimated at 500,000 euros by Transfermarkt.

At 37, the midfielder is likely entering one of the final stages of his professional career, but his first goal for Al Diriyah suggests he still has the desire to take on new challenges. The next stage of his Saudi adventure will determine how far he can continue to contribute.
