Genoa secured a 2-1 home victory over Fiorentina in the sixth round of the Italian championship, scoring twice inside the opening 15 minutes before holding on for all three points.
The hosts made an immediate impact at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Milutin Osmajic put Genoa ahead in the seventh minute, leaving Fiorentina to recover from an early defensive setback.
Genoa doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Junior Messias found the net in the 15th minute. Fiorentina were forced to take greater risks as they attempted to overturn the deficit.
The visitors pulled a goal back through Johan Vasquez, but they could not build on that response or find an equaliser before the final whistle.
