Amine Gouiri could have joined Tottenham during the last summer transfer window after Roberto De Zerbi identified the Algeria international as a potential signing, according to La Provence.
De Zerbi knows Gouiri from his time managing the forward at Olympique de Marseille and wanted to bring him to north London. However, the proposed deal was dependent on Tottenham first creating space in their attacking squad.
The London club would have needed to sell either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison before completing a move for the Marseille player. That condition made the transfer difficult to finalise, and Gouiri ultimately remained with the Ligue 1 side.
The 26-year-old is now experiencing a more mixed period at Marseille. La Provence has highlighted the contrast between his respectable statistics and his reduced influence on the team’s performances.
Gouiri continues to offer technical quality and can contribute in different attacking roles, but he has struggled to affect matches with the same regularity. His versatility remains an asset, although he needs to rediscover greater consistency if he is to establish himself as a long-term part of Marseille’s plans.
The Algeria international is under contract with Les Phoceens until 30 June 2029. His estimated market value is 30 million euros, while his annual salary in France is 4,550,000 euros, equivalent to 2,957,500,000 FCFA.
His situation has also been discussed by the Algeria coaching staff. The assistant manager of the Fennecs described it as “positive to remain at OM” when speaking about Gouiri.
Marseille are due to face Le Havre AC in their eighth league match of the season. The available 1xbet prices list Marseille as favourites at 1.52, with a draw at 4.50 and a Le Havre victory at 5.00.
